Sunday 16th November 2008:
Durham
City Girls traveled up to Morpeth to participate in the girls
10's tournament. As we only had 5 girls in each age group, the
under 15's Joined up with the Cockermouth girls.
The under 18's split
2 went with the Cockermouth team the other 3 with Mowden park.
The under 15's first
game was against the dreaded Morpeth. The girls held their own
and it was only due to a lack of tackling which let Morpeth run
away with it.
The second game against
Percy park was a lot closer. And with our impromptu scrummaging
session we dominated the scrums so well done to Jamie making her
debutant at competitive scrums. The game was hard fort with Percy
Park scoring once before half time. In the second half we managed
to score 2 tries one of which was are very own Hannah who was
playing her first game at scrum half. percy Park managed to pull
it back thouh scoring another 2 tries. Well done to all the girls
and thanks to the parents for providing lifts.
The under 18's where
a huge success the clement sisters made a huge impact on the Mowden
team and Laura and Bethan sloted right into the Cockermouth team.
Unfortuntley are star player Louise was injuerd in the first game
but did a great job of supporting from the sidelines. The last
game between Mowden and Coackermouth was probably the highlight
with Emma stopping Laura from scoring a try! team loyalties changed
with the new shirts me thinks!
A great day for all
the girls so again many thaks to the parents for driving up and
to Morpeth for holding the event.
Wednesday 12th November:
Part of Durham Uni's
Charity Rugby event involved Durham City's first girls school
fixture. The game was between Durham High School for Girls and
Durham Johnston. The game was a huge success from the start with
Durham Johnston turning up with 21 girls.
The first 15 minutes
where a bit hectic and involved quit a bit of screaming. But things
eventually settled down, with the girls starting to play some
expansive and high quality rugby. The tackles where amazing, technique
was spot on and commitment was total.
With the girls settling down and the rules suddenly making sense,
Durham Johnston manged to get 2 trys in before the half time whistle.
After half time the High School pulled it back to a draw. Then
in the final 5 min's Johnston scored again to take the win.
Well done to all the
girls involved and many thanks to the teachers at both schools.
Durham
City Girls section had their first game on Sunday the 26th of
November away at Alnwick.
With our numbers devastated by half term, the under 15's merged
with Morpeths to create an impressive team that played some expansive
free flowing rugby. Our girls took to rugby like ducks to water,
running with the ball in hand breaking through tackles left, right
and center.
In the first half we didn't concede a try and managed to score
2 of our own. Then in the second half we conceded 2 trys in quick
concession. We then managed to score 2 more for ourselves making
the final score 20-10 to us.
Special mentions for; Hannah who put in some tackles and didn't
"fall over and die" as a consequence. Jamie for turning
into a scrum expert and struggling through even though her tooth
was giving her jip. Rosie for seeming to be everywhere at once
and last but not least our man of the match Nicola who got involved
in every aspect of the game, knocking people over in the process.
Also
many thanks to Aelf for providing transport for the girls.
Our one an only representative at under 18 level was Louise her
match report will follow.
Our
next fixture is on the weekend of the 26th of November.
